A Traffic Exclusion Zone
Large B-Double trucks, petrol tankers and even livestock haulage trucks all transiting directly through the heart of the city and Southbank create risks to residents and workers that are extreem and completely unnecessary. Accidents in narrow congested city streets pose an enourmous risk for safety and health, yet no action to restrict or control the types of vehicles and the products they carry has been planned. The number of heavy vehicles transiting the city is very significant and with no taxes or regulations it is simply a matter of "most convenient route". If we are to have a safe and healthy city we will need to place restrictions on road access through high density and high congestion areas. As a resident who watches daily in fear of the dissaster that will inevitably happen when one of these dangerous goods vehicles explodes or burns, I am afraid and you should be too. Lets get some regulations in place and take the first steps in really addressing environment and risk.
