Glossary of terms

Municipality of Melbourne or 'the municipality'	Describes the local government area of Melbourne. Area 37.6 km2 population 86,000. Refer to the municipal map.
City of Melbourne	Describes the local government organisation.
Melbourne City Council or 'the council'	Refers to the elected councilors of the City of Melbourne.
Central city	Describes the central area of the municipality which includes the Hoddle Grid/Central Business District (CBD), Southbank, Southwharf and Docklands.
Inner Melbourne	Describes the Inner Melbourne Region of metropolitan Melbourne comprising the municipalities of: Melbourne; Stonnington (west of Kooyong Road); Port Phillip; Yarra; Maribyrnong; and parts of Moreland and Darebin.
Metropolitan Melbourne	Refers to the whole metropolitan Melbourne, also known as greater Melbourne. Area 8806 km2, population 3.8 million.
