City Plan successes
The City of Melbourne’s City Plan 2010 sets out our long-term vision for the city:
“Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, will be internationally recognised for the opportunities it offers all Victorians to live, learn, work and prosper. Melbourne will be a vibrant, thriving and sustainable city that is viewed with pride by all Victorians.”
Our City of Melbourne Council Plan 2005-2009, developed using City Plan 2010, is the guiding document for all City of Melbourne activities. Although the City of Melbourne has limited direct influence over the city, its indirect influence can be significant.
City Plan 2010 identifies four strategic objectives that reflect our aspirations for the city:
• a connected and accessible city;
• an innovative and vital business city;
• an inclusive and engaging city; and
• an environmentally responsible city.
Future Melbourne, City Plan 2010 and Melbourne 2030
Future Melbourne will replace City Plan 2010 when it is completed in 2008. Future Melbourne is intended to set the city’s agenda up to 2020.
Whilst Future Melbourne and City Plan 2010 are about shared vision for the City of Melbourne, Melbourne 2030 sets out the Victorian government's planning vision for metropolitan Melbourne and the surrounding region.
City Plan successes
In the years since City Plan 2010 was adopted by the Melbourne City Council, many of its key strategies and actions have been implemented and completed. Details of city performance against a range of indicators are available in the City Index Report. This report summarises how the City has performed in the context of its economic, social and environmental
performance over the past year and how it is progressing towards the vision of sustainability as described in City Plan 2010.
